Astra Malorum Main Easter Egg Guide – Full Walkthrough (Black Ops 7 Zombies)
The Astra Malorum Easter Egg in Black Ops 7 Zombies is one of Treyarch’s most ambitious story quests yet, featuring multi-stage puzzles, trap kills, planet alignment mechanics, and a final boss fight on Mars. This guide covers every step from 1–10, including how to get the LGM-1 Wonder Weapon, solve Dr. Thurston’s puzzles, and defeat Caltheris.
Whether you're playing solo or co-op, this is the full route start-to-finish.
Before You Begin (Recommended Setup)
To make this Easter Egg smoother:
Perks: Jugger-Nog, Speed Cola, Stamin-Up, Quick Revive
Ammo Mod: Cryo Freeze (mandatory for Step 2)
Weapons: A strong AR/LMG + LGM-1 later
Equipment: Decoys or Cymbal Monkeys
GobbleGums: Defensive or ammo-support items
Step 1 — Turn on Power & Activate Pack-a-Punch
Head to the Observatory Dome.
Collect the two Harmonic Components:
One in The Luminarium
One in Machina Astralis
Return to the Observatory and interact with the Harmonic Oculus (the piano).
Survive the lockdown.
Power and Pack-a-Punch activate upon completion.
This unlocks every other part of the Easter Egg.
Step 2 — Obtain the LGM-1 Wonder Weapon
You must collect four items, then kill O.S.C.A.R. with three different traps.
2.1 Collect the Required Items
Damaged Drone
– When O.S.C.A.R. appears, destroy the drone he summons.3x Absolute Zero Fragments
– Buy Cryo Freeze, shoot Dark Aether crystals around the map, collect fragments.Car Battery
– Shoot the gear stick in Ol’ Tessie (the truck).Aberrant Wiring
– Shoot a flickering lamp post to drop the wiring.
2.2 Complete the Three Trap Kills
Trap Kill #1 — Electro-Volt Projector (The Luminarium)
Go to The Luminarium.
Activate the trap using your collected items.
Lure O.S.C.A.R. in and destroy his drones to overcharge the trap.
He dies automatically when the trap overloads.
Pick up the Shiny Trinket.
Trap Kill #2 — Rocket Ignition Trap (Museum Infinitum)
Lure O.S.C.A.R. behind the rocket thruster.
Activate the trap.
If you fail, farm more fragments and retry.
Collect another Shiny Trinket.
Trap Kill #3 — Observatory Dome Laser (LGM-1 Unlock)
Bring O.S.C.A.R. into the Observatory Dome.
Shoot the five gas pipes that hiss steam, one after another.
Interact with the piano opposite Pack-a-Punch and align the telescope with the Sun.
A laser fires at the floor. Hold O.S.C.A.R. in the beam until he dies.
Pick up the LGM-1 Wonder Weapon.
You now have the weapon required for later steps.
Step 3 — Solve Thurston’s Planet Puzzle
Find O.S.C.A.R. again.
Stay behind him quietly and listen to his audio logs.
He will list three planets — keep subtitles on and write them down.
Use this chart to convert each planet to a number:
Mercury 1 Venus 2 Earth 3 Mars 4 Jupiter 5 Saturn 6 Uranus 7 Neptune 8
Form a three-digit code.
Go to the Observatory Dome and input the code at the northwest pillar.
A platform rises — climb it and grab the Cryo Chamber Key.
Step 4 — Acquire Dr. Thurston’s Brain
4.1 Open the Cryo Pod
Go to Machina Astralis.
Use the Cryo Chamber Key to reveal Thurston’s frozen body.
4.2 Get the Rock Saw
Head to Museum Infinitum.
Smash the southwest display case to collect the Rock Saw.
4.3 Extract the Brain
Return to the Cryo Chamber.
Use the saw to take Thurston’s Brain.
4.4 Power the Brain in a Jar (Luminarium)
Go to The Luminarium (east wall).
Interact twice with the brain jar to start a 60-second lockdown.
Defend the Perfusion Machine.
After the lockdown, pick up the brain.
Return to Machina Astralis and insert the brain into the rusted machine to link it to the network.
Step 5 — Books & Statues Puzzle
5.1 Telescope DEC Alignment
Return to the Observatory and use the telescope to locate Mars.
Note the DEC numbers shown bottom-left.
Enter these numbers into the device in Machina Astralis (upper floor, facing west).
5.2 Find the Five Books
Look at the monitor beside the brain machine — it will display 5 book titles.
Go to the Archive of Orbis and locate those books on each wall’s bookshelf.
Count how many correct books are on each wall.
Interact with each wall’s statue bust the same number of times as matching books.
You have around 15 seconds to hit all statues.
If done correctly, a trap door opens.
Climb the ladder and claim Planet Neptune.
Step 6 — Align the Planets (Machina Astralis)
6.1 Insert Neptune
Place Neptune in the empty planetarium slot (upper level, southeast).
6.2 Locate the Three Direction Papers
Find the sheets showing planet + direction:
Paper #1: Machina Astralis (desk, facing south)
Paper #2: Archive of Orbis (center desk)
Paper #3: The Luminarium (coffee table, facing northwest)
6.3 Shoot Each Planet Toward Its Direction
Stand under the sun in Machina Astralis and shoot each planet in the direction the paper indicates (NW, SE, etc.).
6.4 Portal Charge Lockdown
Interact with the brain station to start a 2-minute lockdown.
Protect the portal and destroy O.S.C.A.R.’s drones quickly.
When the portal fully charges, you teleport to Mars.
Step 7 — Activate Mars Pylons & Claim the Ascendant Eye
Pick up the brain in the middle of the Mars arena.
Place it on the altar near the return portal.
When the sound cue plays at the start of a round, sprint to the southeast wall.
Shoot the pylons in this order:
Back Right
Back Left
Front Right
Front Left
Each one should glow blue.
Spawn & Collect the Ascendant Eye
Shoot the orb above the temple to spawn the Ascendant Eye.
Keep shooting the orb to freeze its movement.
When anti-gravity activates, jump and grab the Eye.
Place it into the golden pillar (south corner).
Step 8 — Find the Symbol Sequence (Observatory)
Return to Astra Malorum.
Enter the Observatory Core.
Interact with the device right of the piano.
Four symbols display in order — one symbol is missing.
Write down all five, marking the missing one.
Step 9 — Activate the Mars Pillars in Order
Return to Mars.
Shoot the top of each of the five symbol pillars with the LGM-1 to arm them.
Interact with the pillars in the exact symbol sequence shown earlier.
Must be done quickly — mistakes reset the step.
When done correctly, all pillars glow blue.
Interact with the Brain Altar to start the boss fight.
Step 10 — Boss Fight: Caltheris (Four Phases)
Phase 1 — Floating Skull Map Laser
Caltheris is invulnerable.
Dodge lasers sweeping the arena.
Kill zombies to fill generators.
Activate the brain after each generator charge (three total; last requires two generators active).
Phase 2 — Rock Monster Form
Caltheris chases you.
Shoot the blue weak spot.
Stay mobile — sliding helps avoid the grabs.
Phase 3 — Caltheris Ascendant
Bigger, throws rocks.
Keep distance and hit weak points.
Phase 4 — Caltheris the Needle
Throws huge rock projectiles and emits gas clouds.
Break armor and hit all weak spots.
Maintain spacing — getting stunned is dangerous.
Once Caltheris falls, the final cutscene plays — Easter Egg complete.
