All About Cookies 🍪
No, we're not talking about the delicious chocolate chip kind (though those are great too). We're talking about the small text files that websites use to remember things about you. This policy explains what cookies we use and why.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are tiny text files that websites store on your device. They help websites remember things like:
- That you're logged in (so you don't have to log in every single page)
- Your preferences (like dark mode or language settings)
- What you've done on the site (so we can show you relevant content)
Think of them as the website's memory. Without cookies, you'd have to log in every time you visit a new page. That would be annoying!
Cookies We Use
Essential Cookies (Required)
These cookies are necessary for XP Circuit to work. Without them, the site wouldn't function properly.
- Authentication: Keeps you logged in as you navigate the site
- Security: Helps protect against attacks and keeps your session secure
- Preferences: Remembers your settings (like sidebar state, theme, etc.)
You can't disable these cookies without breaking the site, so we don't give you that option. They're essential!
Analytics Cookies (Optional)
These help us understand how people use XP Circuit so we can make it better.
- Usage Stats: How many people visit, what pages they view, etc.
- Performance: How fast pages load, if there are errors, etc.
- Improvements: What features people use most, what could be better
We use this data to fix bugs, improve performance, and make XP Circuit awesome. We don't use it to track you across other websites or show you ads.
What We DON'T Use
We want to be clear about what we're NOT doing:
- No Advertising Cookies: We don't use cookies to show you ads from third parties
- No Tracking Cookies: We don't track you across other websites
- No Social Media Tracking: We don't use Facebook pixels, Twitter tracking, or similar
- No Data Selling: We don't sell cookie data to advertisers or data brokers
Your privacy is important to us. We only use cookies to make XP Circuit work and improve it. That's it.
Managing Cookies
You can control cookies in a few ways:
Browser Settings
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. You can usually find these settings in your browser's privacy or security section. Just keep in mind that blocking essential cookies will break XP Circuit.
Our Settings
We don't currently have a cookie preference center (we're working on it!), but you can always clear your browser cookies if you want to start fresh. Just remember you'll have to log in again.
Third-Party Cookies
We use a few third-party services that might set their own cookies:
- Cloudflare: Security and performance (they might set cookies for security)
- Vercel Analytics: Basic usage stats (privacy-focused, no personal data)
These services are essential for XP Circuit to work, and they're all privacy-focused. We've chosen them specifically because they respect user privacy.
How Long Cookies Last
Different cookies last for different amounts of time:
- Session Cookies: Deleted when you close your browser
- Persistent Cookies: Stay on your device for a set time (usually 30 days to 1 year)
We keep cookies around long enough to make the site work smoothly, but not forever. Most expire after 30 days or when you log out.
Questions? 🍪
If you have questions about our cookie usage, feel free to reach out! We're happy to explain anything and make sure you understand what's happening with your data.
